چکیده
I introduce a gauge invariant decomposition of the nucleon spin into quark helicity, quark orbital, and gluon contributions. The total quark (and hence the quark orbital) contribution is shown to be measurable through virtual Compton scattering in a special kinematic region where single quark scattering dominates. This deeply-virtual Compton scattering (DVCS) has much potential to unravel the quark and gluon structure of the nucleon. Some methods of the " unfolded dynamics " machinery particularly useful for the analysis of higher spin gauge theories are summarized. A formulation of 4d conformal higher spin theories in Sp(8) invariant space-time with matrix coordinates and its extension to Sp(2M) invariant space-times are discussed. A new result on the global characteriza-ton of causality of physical events in the Sp(2M) in...

We treat the baryon as a composite system made out of a " core " of three quarks (as in the standard quark model) surrounded by a " sea " (of gluons and q ¯ q-pairs) which is specified by its total quantum numbers like flavor, spin and color. Specifically, we assume the sea to be a flavor octet with spin 0 but no color. The general wavefunction for spin 1/2 baryons with such a sea component is ...

We summarize three alternative extensions of the quark-valence picture of nucleon strangeness and spin, including (1) gluon spin in QCD, (2) Bjorken sum rule and QCD, (3) D–E meson mixing and tadpole leakage. All three approaches suggest that ∼ 40% of the nucleon’s spin (as well as its momentum) resides with quarks, but that less than 6% is due to strange quarks.
